Did you see the TV advertisement for
M & M's? Now, you can
customize the "chocolate that melts in your mouth and not on your hands." You
can write a name or a message on those ubiquitous little anti-depressants (as I like to think of chocolate).
Of course, I, myself,
knew that since my cousin's wedding about four years ago ! It was a "Marquardt"
and "McCourt" wedding and I wanted to use M & M's in those tiny plastic champagne party favors that I had volunteered
to fill. So I went to the
M & M site and to my surprise, I found out that not only could I order M & M's on line, but I could order them in whatever color
I wanted. Not only that, there was the coolest animated candy machine on line that filled up when you purchased
the product. So, the M & M site became one of my favorites for years now, and the wedding party favors
were a hit with white M & M's.
Loving that site so well, I told my firends about it. I asked if they knew they could order M & M's in school
colors and spread the word whenever I could. I even told my friend's daughter about customizing the candy after she
got a position in marketing at a very popular company that makes a popular candy bar. I even suggested that
her company customize their candy bars. (She politely responded to my email.) No one seemed to be as amazed as I was
with this novel concept and with the M & M site.
Well, just yesterday I saw an ad on TV about M & M's and thought, "Finally!" People
will are going to bombard that web site and will think this whole customizing idea is GREAT! (I might even get
another email from my friend's daughter telling me that their candy bar company is somehow now offering customization.)
But then a great depression befell me. (That's how great it was. It actually came over me in an old fashioned
word like "befell".) I was thinking about
our customizing software idea that is manifested in
"Computer Game Maker-Lite". You could actually write an analogy string like you find on the SAT or GRE exams:
"Customers' past knowledge of Customized M & M's is to Customers' present knowledge of Computer Game Maker Lite as......"
The problem is that a small company like Windmill Works cannot take out a TV ad like M & M's. Or, as Craig
Ferguson might say, "Could we?" Perhaps we could, on a small scale. We could make a video
on You Tube! We could put a page up at Facebook! We could... Oooh, oooh, no more time for writing in this blog. I'm
off to the Facebook page and notifying the world or OUR customizing option in our software.
P.S. If any of YOU have ideas for us, just email me at
billie@windmillworks.com. I'd love to hear YOUR marketing ideas for us! We'll send you free software!
