Windmill Works has been the owner of
www.highlightertape.com for several years. So why don't we get to Windmill Works when we click on highlightertape.com?
The short story: Windmill Works has sold the domain
name to our wonderful affiliate, Lee Products, the manufacturer of the highlighter tape we sell. Lee
Products will be developing an exciting site for that domain name, and Windmill Works is hoping to be the first to advertise
to schools and other agencies through the new channel!
Does Windmill Works still carry highlighter
tape?
Yes we do. Order forms for
school purchase orders and other
corporate
or agency orders
over $50 are available on our
Highighter Order Form Page. Simply find the size and color of the tape your school or company desires and
fax purchase order to 763-322-8772.
What if I want to order LESS than $50 of tape?
At this time, Windmill Works does not carry a physical inventory of highlighter tape. Therefore, because of
shipping costs, etc. it is not cost effective to have small orders of tape drop shipped from the manufacturer.
The good news is that there is a myriad of
online distributors of Lee Products higlighter tape. A complete list is available on or Links page or by clicking here. Please check with windmillworks.com often, however, since we are
planning to resume carrying highlighter tape for orders under $50 when we have more space to carry an inventory of
the entire line. (Besides, the ever popular Scooter the Dog Blog is only
available on our site!
Why has Windmill Works made this decision?
The short answer: We're trying this out temporarily
while we try to promote our exciting software game, IQ Solitaire.
The longer answer: Since the beginning, Windmillworks
Educational Software and Games has focused on the design and development of educational software games for both the deaf/hard
of hearing population and the mainstream population. We started selling highlighter tape when Billie came up with an
idea for such a product while tutoring at North Hennepin Community College. (a longer story). When we discovered it was
already created and manufactured, we wanted to sell it on our site because we knew it was a fantastic aid to student
study. We started to get school purchase orders that could be dropped shipped from Lee Products.
As word spread, our customer based started to include an amazing group of people who
found highlighter tape useful: attorneys, pilots, knitters, musicians, etc. However, Windmill
Works (highlightertape.com) never had space to carry the entire line and it was not cost effective to ship one or
two rolls of tape from the manufacturer. Lee Products continued to drop ship tiny orders, but soon
it became inefficient to have a small order of one roll of tape shipped from the manufacturer.
Software? Tape? So Many Choices, So Little Time
At the same time, Mike Olmon was almost finished with his programming for Windmill
Works newest software concept, "IQ Solitaire". Excitement was high and the need to get the product out to the public
was, and still is, a huge task.
So Windmill Works was at a crossroads trying to decide whether to purchase a large inventory
of highlighter tape so we could ship small orders ourselves or change our focus to the software and reserve our
highlighter sales for larger orders.
It was a difficult decision because we have grown to feel a close relationship with
our "highlighting" customers, many calling to clarify product sizes and colors, etc. But we were also EXTRMELY
excited about our creation, IQ Solitiare. What to do? What to do? Since we had already sold the name,
highlightertape.com, we thought it made logical sense to continue to sell highlighter tape in large quantities through
purchase orders from schools and other agencies, while directing our former customers who need small quantities to online distributors who are able to keep an inventory. We do not have an affiliation with these suppliers, but hope you will find the list
helpful.
Of course, all of this has been taking a great deal of time and we can only hope you were able to find
suppliers through our notes and announcements at Windmill Works. Our apologies for any inconvenience this
may have caused and we truly miss the contact with those of you who have emailed and called us. BUT, if you
love highlighter tape, you'll surely love our IQ Solitaire. (We know that that may be a cognitive leap to a connection, but we can dream, can't we?)
